To  Be  A  Father

It’s great to be a father when the school report says, “Well behaved; always tries her/his best.”

It’s great when, at the end of a long day, you over-hear your child’s night prayer, “God, bless Daddy.”

It’s hard to be a father when your 16-year old is doing all the things you warned against.

It’s very hard when you bury your child of any age.

It’s great when you’re watching your son or daughter play for the club or school, or ride a horse, or sing a song and your best pal gives you a nudge and says, “A chip off the old block.”

It’s great on holidays for a week without shaving, and your 4-year old girl, fingering your stubble, asks “Daddy, why doesn’t Mammy have a beard?”

It’s hard to be a father when things fall badly apart, and you seldom meet your children again.

It’s great to be a father when Santa Claus brings ‘perfect presents’ and you get to play with them too!

It’s great when you’re walking your daughter up the aisle, and it seems only yesterday you walked down the aisle with her mother.

It’s great to be a grandfather when your grandchild asks (or commands),”Granddad, tell me a story.”

Sacred  Heart  Novena

Friday, 28th June, is the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. There has been a long tradition in Emly parish of devotion to the sacred Heart. The notes recorded in Canon Power’s Ledger show stretching back to the very first days of our parish church.

You are invited to engage in a home-based 9-day Novena, from next Thursday 20th till Friday 28th .

It needs just 10 minutes a day. Special Novena leaflets are available at the church doors.

Congratulations

The Board of Management and Staff of St. Ailbe’s National School are to be congratulated on the establishment, official Opening and Blessing of the new A.S.D.Unit. This superb facility will be of enormous benefit to pupils who live with autism – and it will assist their families. A particular word of appreciation to Principal, Mrs. Pauline Finnan, who worked might and main to get this Unit established. Thanks too to all parishioners who supported the fund-raising efforts for special equipment.

Emly  Hospice  Group

Emly Hospice Group will hold their annual Local Fundraiser – An Cailín Álainn –  next Saturday 22nd  June. The Committee will sell tickets door-to-door. Hospice services make a world of difference.

Cashel & Emly Martyrs

Next Wednesday, 19th June, has been named as a special Memorial Day of the four beatified Martyrs of our diocese, including Bl. Dermot O’Hurley, Bl. Terence Albert O’Brien, both of Emly. We’re asked to keep in prayer all those suffering persecution for their Faith in our time. Places of active persecution of Christians – including very many Catholics – are Nigeria, Egypt, Syria, Sri Lanka, India, China, Saudi  Arabia,  Pakistan, Sudan, the Philippines, and more.

Happy  Father’s  Day!

It will be the Feast of the Body & Blood of Christ.
