EUCHARISTIC  CONGRESS Emly parish was represented today at the final celebration and Mass of the International  Eucharistic Congress in Croke Park. At home, a special Mass of Community was celebrated in our parish church at 11am this morning. It was a joyful occasion of music and song. At the beginning of the Mass the altar and church was decorated with flowers by the local tidy town committee.  Each organisation was represented at the offertory procession – a symbol of the strength of our community. ELECTRIC  CAR There was great interest in the electric powered car that was brought to Emly today as part of an energy saving presentation by South Tipperary Energy Agency in conjunction with South Tipperary County Council and Emly Tidy Town committee.  Many took the opportunity to take a drive in the car.

VISITORS Since Emly village won the overall Tidy Town award in 2009 and the Best Village award in 2011 there have been many visitors to the place. TIDY  TOWN –  New Chairperson. At its recent AGM the Emly tidy town committee appointed a new chairperson in succession to Sharon Cunningham who stood down after seven years in that office during which time Emly won the National Tidy Town’s Award.  The new chairperson is Jonas Callanan.  Seamus Cunningham is the new Secretary and Catherine Quish is Treasurer.

FILM  AWARD Congratulations to Nicholas Ryan-Purcell, formerly of Emly, who recently won a film award in Kentucky, USA. His short five minute silent film entitled ‘Silent Film’ was shot at Cloughjordan railway station near where Nicholas and his family now lives. It features a cast of three which includes his father Oliver and sister Joanna. Nicholas is studying television and film production at Balluyermot College of Further Education.
