A  Cock’s  Step

There’s a stretch in the evenings,                                           enough light to walk, dig or play.                                                        The cock has taken many steps                                                                 since sun-peep at Newgrange hill.

He still has Marching strides to strut                                                            till day and night find brief balance;                                                    from then he’ll crow each morning in,                                  trumpeting an Easter triumph,

stirring Earth to celebration,                                                quickening Universe’s pulse,                                                                stretching April ev’nings to May,                                                  populating green fields with birth.
