“No Place Like Home”
We are, in general, fond of the village, town or neighbourhood where we grew up. We carry good memories when they leave it and pass on our home-based stories to our children.
It was the same with the Jewish people in exile in Babylon, 600 years before Jesus. They pined for ‘home-town’ Jerusalem. So also did their children who had never seen it but had learned of its special place in their history and religion.
Today’s First Reading is a poem expressing thei excitement at the prospect of going home and feeling God’s welcome there. They’d be like infants cradled and nursed by their Mother.
(Be glad : God continues to wish to mother us.)
