Emly  Parish  Bulletin

5th February 2017 : 4th Sunday of Year

“Two  lives,  One Love”

The Irish Catholic Bishops have made a very important submission to the Citizens’ Assembly that is considering the Eight Amendment to the Constitution. Copies of the Bishops’ document called “Two Lives, One Love” are available at the church doors. Please take and read carefully.

 Key points:

+ There is no such thing as a human life without value. The right to life is a fundamental human right. It exists prior to any civil laws.

+ Our present Constitution celebrates the equality of the mother and the unborn child. To drop or change this part of the Constitution would withdraw the right to life from some categories of unborn children and weaken it for all unborn children.

+We must be at our most compassionate and merciful when an expectant mother and father and their unborn child require help in a crisis. Abortion – the direct and intentional destruction of an unborn baby – is  not a  medical treatment.

+ Many thousands of Irish people are alive as a direct result of the 8th Amendment, who might otherwise never have been born.
