3-Day Festivsl of Families
Archbishop O’Reilly will celebrate Mass in Emly on Tuesday, 12th Sept., at 7.30pm. This date is the Feastday of St. Ailbe, patron of Emly and of the archdiocese. The archbishop is, in effect, making Emly the centre of the diocese for that day. It would be good to have a full attendance at this Mass. Please make the effort.
In fact, Emly will be the centre of the diocese for 3 days on account of the visit of the Icon of the Holy Family for our 3-Day Festival of Families. The Icon is coming to help us pray for our families – the living and the dead.
The Icon will arrive from Holycross Abbey on Tuesday 12th at 11.00 and remain in place until late on Thursday 14th . You are encouraged to come and sit quietly in its presence – come on your own, or with your family, or with friends.
The church will be open daily 9.00am– 10.00p
The 3 evening Masses will be special : Tuesday, in honour of St. Ailbe; Wednesday, to draw help and encouragement from Jesus, Mary and Joseph for ourselves and for our families; Thursday, to remember and pray for our deceased family members.
There will be A Petition Box close to the Icon and your petitions will be placed on the altar during the Masses.
An Icon is more than a picture. It is a very special kind of painting – a sacred painting that “speaks to us” (almost) and draws us into close contact with God and with the saints. This Icon will draw us closer to Jesus, Mary and Joseph.
Your Help Needed.
We need two people per half-hour or hour to keep watch over the Icon (its safety) during Tuesday. Volunteers please contact Michelle Lonergan : 087-6548864.
Choir Practice: Wednesday & Friday, 8.00pm.
Please spread the word about the 3-Day Festival of Families and invite along relatives & friends.
