Breaking  Down  Barriers

In the past few years, there has been a growth in ‘nationalism’ in many countries. Some in Ameri want to bar Mexicans from entering. A number of governments in Europe have similar ideas regarding refugees. Many English citizens want to erect barriers between themselves and Europe

Two places mentioned in today’s gospel were not within the borders of Israel – Zarephath and Syria. The people of Nazareth were horrified when Jesus declared that, in times past, God had sent two of his prophets to bring relief to people in those foreign places.

The urge to exclude people who differ from us is an old prejudice. It seems to be still alive and active in our world of the twenty-first century!
