GOSPEL REFLECTION

In our Gospel to day we read what are called the Beatitudes. At first reading some of these beatitudes may seem to describe circumstances that we would want to avoid. But perhaps we may have had the experience of a blessing when:

I was poor – I knew the need of God;

I mourned – I felt for others in their sorrow;

I was meek – I knew did not lose my temper;

I did hunger and thirst for some good cause;

I was merciful rather than vengeful;

I was pure in heart – committed to a good act;

I was a peacemaker;

I was persecuted (sneered at) because I stood up for something.
