Advent Begins The season of Advent is “bi-focal” — both short-sighted and long-sighted. Short-sighted: it prepares us for Christmas. Long-sighted: it looks forward to the complete fulfilment of Christ’s work of redemption, when the entire universe – of which he is Lord and King (last Sunday’s feast) is crowned with God’s love. We call this “the Second Coming of Christ.

First Holy Communion In six months time – on Sunday 28th May – we will celebrate First Holy Communion with the children in 2nd Class. Their parent requested to attend a short meeting on this Monday night, 28th Nov., at Duhig House, 7.30 – 8.30pm, to begin the Do This in Memory parish based programme of preparation. It is important that each child is represented.

. Emly Parish Crest Local artist Michael Bourke, Railway Road, has painted a specially commissioned Emly Parish Crest. It is erected on the inside of the church porchway. The motto: “Tobar Creidimh is Léinn” – well of Faith and of Learning – refers to the Faith and Learning that flowed from St. Ailbe’s monastery for many centuries.
Scripture Course Begins The 3-night Bible course, launched by the Archbishop, runs on Tuesdays: 29th Nov, 6th & 13th Dec. It begins in 6 centres this Tuesday, including St. Ailbe’s Parish Hall. Starting at 7.30 it will run for 1hr. 20 mins. (Home for the 9.00 News!!). For years, you’ve been hearing Readings from the Bible. This is a chance to get a better “handle” on what lies behind them.
