Festival  of  Family  Faith

Tuesday, 12th September, is the Feastday of St. Ailbe – patron of our parish and our diocese. On that day, the Icon of the Holy Family, specially created for the World Meeting of Families 2018

will come to Emly Parish Church, for three days

12 – 14th Sept. {A big honour for our parish}.

Parishioners of all ages, from the  parishes of  the olden diocese of Emly, will come to see it and to pray before it.

This Icon is very large and beautiful. The main section depicts the young adult Jesus, Mary and

Joseph – at home. Two smaller panels show the Wedding at Cana and the Raising of the  daughter of Jairus : three gospel Family events.

There will be a Planning Meeting on this Thurs 31st August, in the Parish Hall, at 8.00pm. (End before 9.00pm). If you would wish to help with this unique 3-Day event, please come along.

What’s  an  Icon?

Icon painting is a tradition within the Orthodox Churches. The subject matter is always persons or events in the Bible, painted in such a way as to invite the viewer to join in what is happening.

This new Icon invites us to sit with the Holy Family at their kitchen table.
