Mission  Sunday  Snippets

“This (the Philippines) is the place where I have most experienced a sense of being in touch with God and the people. My home town is Dunmore, Co. Galway. It has a ruined Augustinian abbey. The first missionaries to this region were Augustinians. In my grandmother’s house in Dunmore there was a photo of Peter Fallon, one of five Columban priests exectued by the Japanese here when they over-ran the Philippines in 1945. He was here brother-in-law.

Fr. John Leydon, Columban missionary.

“Family catechetics – preparing people for the Sacraments – was a major part of our pastoral ministry here in Chile. Sr. Kathleen Mary Riordan guided programmes caring for people suffering from alcoholism and drug addiction. Sr. Angela McKeever has worked in a prison, helping to mend the fractured lives of the victims of drugs and those suffering AIDS. This is an uphill struggle. I and others worked in the northern region of the Andes mountains. God’s mission lives on in the faith of the communities we helped to birth. To God be the glor

Sr. Ita McElwain, Columban missionary.

“The Church missionary needs to facilitate the experience of God.”  Fr. Seamus Cullen, Cavan & Japan.

Collection  for the  Missions

Taking account of your very generous support of the Church Repair Fund, we will not hold a Collection for the Missions this year. Instead we will divert some of your Offertory donations to the Missions. But you might like to add a euro or two.  Thank you.

Planned  Giving

A big “Thank You” to all parishioners who give substantial contributions to parish funds through the Planned Giving envelopes. These donations assist greatly with the week-to-week, month-to-month running of the parish and its obligations.

Safeguarding  of  Children

Please return Vetting Invitation forms to Fr. Bernie Moloney after Masses this weekend and next. He will be in touch shortly with those who  were unable to attend the Information Night.

Emly Historical Society

Emly historical society is delighted to host a talk on the War of Independence in the Emly area and the Emly connection with the 1916 rising by prominent local historian and author Tom Toomey.  The talk will take place on the 28th October at 8pm in St. Ailbe’s Hall.  Please pass the word to friends and neighbours as it will be a very interesting local history evening.

Emly Tennis Club

The fun junior tennis on Friday evenings is very well attended and suitable for beginner/improvers.  Friday evening 5-6pm; only €2.  Last call for names for our adult tournament, scheduled for Monday and Thursday nights.  Draw made this Sunday evening.  Matches starting this coming week.

Clocks go back one hour next Saturday night 29th.
