Mission Sunday
This weekend marks Mission Sunday. It’s the one Sunday in the year when Catholics in all parts of the world are asked to contribute to the support of Church communities where it is new,
‘young’ or poor. Our prayers support them too.
During the past 150 years, thousands of Irish priests, religious sisters and brothers, and lay missionaries have brought the message of Jesus to peoples across the face of the Earth – they included a number from the parish of Emly.
This year 2017, is the centenary of the founding of the Maynooth Mission to China – known as the Columban Fathers and Sisters. To mark this, Archbishop Kieran O’Reilly celebrates Mass on RTE1 at 11.00am this Sunday. He himself was a missionary in West Africa for some years.
