See the Icon
The Raising of the Daughter of Jairus is one of the Gospel scenes depicted in the Icon of the Holy Family placed in front of the Altar in our church.
The event is portrayed in the left-hand side panel.
It shows Jesus, with Peter, James and John at his shoulder. On the right hand side of the this panel we we see Jairus and h is wife standing close to the bed of their young daughter. The young girl is shown rising from her death-bed in response to the touch and words of Jesus.
Jesus desires to reach out to us: to touch that sport within us that is hurting; to heal that wound within us that festers; to dispel that inner shadow that clouds our thoughts, decisions and actions.
Each of us carries such hurts, wounds and shadows.

The Historical Society opens Emly’s Summer Festival on Tuesday 10th July at 8.00pm in St. Ailbe’s Parish Hall, by hosting a talk on “The Annals of Inisfallen” by Professor Thomas Charles-Edwards of Oxford University. He is an expert on early Irish and Welsh history. Well worth hearing!
The Annals originated in St. Ailbe’s Monastery, date from 1092 and are regarded as one of Ireland’s medieval treasures. The manuscript ended up on the small island of Inishfallen in the Lakes of Killarney and takes its name from there.
