Samaritans  Ireland

The Samaritans listening service was set up in  Ireland in 1962. There are now 20 branches in the Republic, with more than 2,000 trained active volunteers – who are drawn from all age groups and social backgrounds..

Volunteers answer almost 3 million calls over five years of freephone 116 123. Their aim is to protect the lives of callers by listening to them with respect, acceptance and patience. In the past few years, there has been a decrease in the number of deaths by suicide in the Republic.

To make contact with Samaritans Ireland                           for help or to volunteer, call 116 123.

Viatores  Christi

We will welcome Mary Winters to speak on behalf of Viatores Christi at Masses next Saturday and Sunday, 20/21 July. Founded in 1960, ‘Viatores’ is an association of Catholic lay missionary development workers who serve in areas of need in Africa, Asia, South America.

In visiting Emly (and all parishes of the diocese) Mary will offer an opportunity to anyone who feels called to volunteer their time, skills and talents. Also she will appeal for ongoing help both financially and, above all, through prayer. There will be a collection in aid of the work of Viatores Christi. Please help.
