GOSPEL REFLECTION

John the Baptist was driven by one mission: to point people to Jesus, to prepare the way for Jesus. Yet John is uneasy in this account of Jesus’ Baptism. The moment has arrived but he is standing before someone much greater than himself and is being asked to minister. John feels unqualified, unworthy of such a task. After some persuasion ‘John gave in to him’ and accepted his responsibility

PAINTING  CLASSES

Painting classes will begin again in Emly on Thurs 23rd Jan at 8pm. Beginners are always welcome. Anyone interested should contact Betty at 062/57128.

 

TENNIS CLUB

Please note the tennis courts are closed at present due to damage caused by recent bad weather.  Notification of re-opening of same will issue once the weather improves and work can be done to them.

The Annual General Meeting of the Tennis Club will take place on Saturday, 1st March, 2014 at 8.00 p.m., in The Forge Bar, Emly.  A social night will follow and all are welcome.

 

SET DANCING

Children’s set dancing/drama classes take place every Monday evening from 6.30 p.m. – 8.30 p.m. in Byrnes Tavern, Emly.  All are welcome.

Adult set dancing classes take  place every Monday night at 8.30 p.m. in OB’s, Kilross and every Tuesday night at 8.30 p.m. in The Community Hall, Knocklong.  All are welcome

 

SPORT’S  CONFERENCE

St Patrick’s College, Thurles will host a Conference entitled “Exploring the link between Sport and Spirituality” on the 24th and

25th Jan. The Conference will be of interest to a variety of sports practitioners, including coaches, managers, players, athletes and those with a genuine interest in sport, psychology and spirituality.

Speakers include: Dr. Eamon O’Shea (Manager of the Tipperary Senior Hurling team); Rev. John Boyers (Chaplain to Manchester United F.C.); Dr. Mark Nesti (Former first team counselling sport psychologist at Bolton Wanderers, Newcastle United and Hull City); Dr. Kevin O’ Gorman (Moral Theologian at St Patrick’s College Maynooth); Dr. Nick Watson (Senior lecturer at York St John University).
