In Flanders Fields
“We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie, In Flanders fields.”
by John McCrae, Canadian army doctor, May 1915. Died 1918.
Special Collection this Weekend
In all churches, North and South, a special collection is taken this weekend to pay off the remaining €4m debt arising from Papal Visit and the World Meeting of Families. The full cost to the Church in Ireland was €19.4m. To date, €15.4m has been raised.
This will be the final collection for this purpose. Please add your donation to the Offertory collection.
Guidelines for Church Collections
A few years ago, the Irish Bishops introduced new national guidelines for the way church money is to be managed – with what is called “Best Practice”.
Lockable bags to be used instead of baskets.
A rota of parishioners (not the priests) to count the money . A minimum of two counters each time.
We hope to form the teams of counters from the regular collectors.
Note: The identity of each Offertory envelope is confidential. Only the Parish Priest knows the name.
Planned Giving envelopes will be opened by the … Parish Priest only – to protect confidentiality.
This system will be introduced in December/Advent
