Ash  Wednesday

The season of LENT begins on this Wednesday 14th with the blessing and distribution of Ashes.

Masses : 9.30am (with school community);  7.30pm.

By tradition, this is a time of year when Catholics make an extra effort to live some part of the Gospel more faithfully : give a bit more time to prayer; or an act of self-sacrifice that brings benefit to another person who is in need (combining fasting and charity, such as Trócaire).

The left-over palms from Palm Sunday are burned to ashes, and the ashes, when blessed, is placed on our foreheads and we are called on to renew our Faith.

The ‘Hosannas’ and the palm branches of Jesus’ entry to Jerusalem turn to ashes. A striking reminder that any big notions we have of ourselves turn to dus

St. Valentine’s  Day

In his most recent writing – The Joy of Love – Pope Francis refers directly to St. Valentine’s Day as an opportunity to invite couples to grow in love and help their children to prepare for future married life.

We invite you to take a free St. Valentine’s Card and a Book of Tokens with which to gift your wife /husband during the days of this week. Each token

is a do-able, pleasant, promise.  Have a chuckle!
