Parish Bulletin – 10th February 2013

MASSES

There will be NO Masses on Mon & Tues next. Masses during the week are: Wed, Thurs, Fri 9.30am; Wed 7.30pm;

WEEKEND: Sat 7.30pm; Sun 11am.

ASH  WEDNESDAY – LENT

Next Wed is Ash Wednesday. Ashes will be distributed after the morning and evening Masses.

Ashes are a grim reminder that the things of this world do not last forever … ‘dust thou art and unto dust thou shalt return’. Being marked with ashes is a public sign that one is taking on some act of penance during Lent. To repent means literally to think again. It entails taking an honest look at oneself with a decision to improve. Jesus prepared for his public mission in forty days of prayer and fasting. Lent is a season of preparation for the renewal of our baptismal commitments.

 DEATH

With sadness we record the death of Fr Seán Kennedy C.C., Emly who died on Monday last.

A sincere word of thanks to the parishioners of Emly for their support at this time and for the great help and planning of the funeral, celebration of the Requiem Mass and catering . All that was done is greatly appreciated and was a fitting tribute to a man who spent so many years living in Emly.

THE IRISH  CATHOLIC The ‘Irish Catholic’ newspaper is on sale (price €1.50.)

GOSPEL  REFLECTION

Simon responded to the invitation from Jesus to put out the net again, with surprising results. Simon had a profound sense of a power at work that he could not understand. The disciples ‘left everything and followed Jesus’. This step was preceded by their experience of the concern of Jesus for them, the attraction of his work, teaching and actions.
