DEATH – Fr. Seán Kennedy CC., Emly
The death took place on Monday last of Fr. Seán Kennedy. Fr. Seán had been stationed in Emly parish since 1974.
Seán Kennedy was born in Eskey, Co. Sligo in 1933. As a child his family moved to Tipperary Town where his father, a Garda, was stationed. He received his early education in Tipperary. Having finished his Secondary education in Tipperary Seán worked in the P & T and was stationed for a short while in the General Post Office in Dublin.
Seán Kennedy then entered the Diocesan Seminary in Thurles and was ordained a priest in 1958. Fr. Seán’s first appointment as a priest was on loan in Dublin diocese serving in Ballyfermot parish. Returning to the Cashel & Emly diocese he served in the parishes of Killoscully, Cappawhite and Fethard before his appointment to Emly parish..
Fr. Seán served in Emly until last year when ill-health made it impossible for him to continue his ministry in the parish. Since last April Fr. Seán has been in the loving care of the staff of the nearby Deerpark Nursing Home where he died peacefully on Monday last. Fr. Seán will be long remembered in Emly. May he rest in peace.
