My name is Michael Carroll, and my family tree has roots in Emly. My great-grandparents were Owen and Mary Carroll (maiden name, Brennan), who lived in Ballyvistae according to the 1901 census. Owen's mother (my great, great grandmother) was named Alice Bourke (maiden name) of Coolboy. I do not know my great great grandfather's name (the one who married Alice Bourke). I am writing to ask if their is anything in your records that might help. They had 12 children including my great grandfather, Owen. I intend to commission a search through Tipperary Family History Research , but I would like to start with the most distant ancestor I can determine the name of. My best guess is that his name was James Carroll, as my family seemed to follow the Irish tradition of naming the 1 st child after the paternal grandfather. I was fortunate enough to visit Emly this September. I found it to be a friendly, charming area. I can understand why you won the "Tidy Town" award. Thanks you for any help you may be able to give me.

I am looking for any descendants of Owen and Mary Carroll, of Ballyvistae (Emly). They were my great grandparents. Owen was born in the 1840's. I recently visited Emly on a trip from USA. Your town is beautiful, and the people are very friendly. I'm proud that my people came from your town.

Greetings, I have a special interest in a very ancient clan known as the Mairtines, believed to have been the predominant clan in Emly until their unexplained disappearance, perhaps 60-100 years B.C. Likely origin for name Martin. Kindly reply at jack@jackspring.com Thank you, Jack Spring

I just recently found my Irish folk from Ireland. They came from Emly I think in the 1860's to New York. My great great grandparents were Terrance Hagney and Sarah Connell. My great grandfather was Timothy who had a brother John and sisters Bridget, Margaret and Mary. I wonder if anyone knows any info about Terrance and Sarah. Sarah came over here so I assume Terrance passed over. Any info will be appreciated. I hope to get to Emly someday.

A year old but had to reply. Trying to sort Crowe families in Emly parish to connect to my Crowe family and found an Otto Hefferman as being a sponsor to Patrick Crowe son of Darby Crowe and Bridget Ryan in Bransha/Bansha co Tipp. Darby Crowe (Jeremiah) is most likely a brother to Patrick Crowe who married Anastasia Mooney. Patrick Crowe (s/o Darby Crowe) was born abt 1811 and married Ellen Hanley and I think some of their children ended up in Troy too but don't know much more than that. Hope this might interest someone.
