Freedom  from  Fear

Very often the choice that faces us is between what is good and what is better, between what is “alright” and what is best. Many times, it is fear that holds us back from the better and the best.

Numerous times in the Gospel – like today- Jesus seeks to calm the disciples’ fears and our fears. He does not belittle our fears but he seeks to lead us beyond them. He knows well that our fears can be the enemy of our best intentions.

In today’s world – and in today’s Ireland – we can be frightened by the level of hostility to the Faith that we read/see/hear. Jesus bids us to not let this hostility get under our skin or squeeze the life out of our hearts and souls and minds.

Lord, dissolve my fears. Steady me.

Lead me from good to better to best.
